Just wondering how things are going over there concerning your reptiles. There were a few posts regarding the first snakes of the year, I was wondering wether they are active now, as over in England its still 2 cold and is delaying breeding im sure. hope you lot are well and be safe, thanks kieron.

I've had several now. It's going to be sunny and in the upper 70s this afternoon. Should see something. I also discected my first DOR of the year :(. A young female cottonmouth (sulfur tail still visible) with a ground skink partially digested.I hope this is going to be a good year for snakes.

Ive seen a few garters and a rat snake, Im too far north to find venomous. Ive had friends who live in southern Illinois and Missouri report several A. contortrix and A. piscivorous already. Weather here is in the low 70's and sunny. I went herping last weekend and didnt find anything, but temps were still in the low 60s, so the temp is not quite ideal yet. Next month I should see significantly more activity.

Things are also starting to move around in Romania.
A friend of mine just caught a adult female euro adder (Vipera berus) yesterday about 100 miles south from where I live. If the weather will warm up a little I`m hoping to catch my first 2006 snake this dunday,
Best regards, Alex S.

Kieron,
Since we can't actually post pictures on this forum, here are a couple of links to some posts about my trips here in California so far this Spring. You can cut and paste them into your browser. Hope you find something you enjoy.

Here in south Florida, there are a few days when one might not see a snake, but they can be seen in all twelve calendar months.

Caught and released a 4' Black Rat in the Water Gap NRA Thursday, 30 Mar. This was not an enthusiastic emergent. It was only half out of it's crevice and mostly obscured by a scattering of dead leaves. Only about a third of the head and maybe a 1/2 inch or so of a neck coil were visible and then only if you happened to be looking at the proper angle. Individual felt quite cold. Plenty of vinegar though. I was working through a den area that I know extremely well, otherwise I wouldn't have spotted it.
I had gone down there half hoping to spot an early Racer, as they're usually the first ones out in that particular area. There wasn't a Racer in sight, not even in the best of the microclimates. The Rat was a bit of a surprise.
Up in Susquehanna County, where I live, nothing is moving yet (we had snow last weekend and up until the last couple of days the night temps have been in the 20s).

I'm in Kansas so it took a while to get warm. I don't get venomous around our lake here but, these guys still made my day yesterday.
