Hello everyone,
I am going to be speaking at a national conference in mid May (giving a talk about the ABC's of Reptile Husbandry for animal control facilities and proper methods for capturing potentially dangerous reptiles) in Oklahoma City and am hoping to have a lot of free time to do some herping in the area. Does anyone have any good spots w/in a 100 mile drive of Oklahoma City (please feel free to email me personally if you want to keep certain areas confidential)? I am just looking to get out and enjoy some spring air, see some herps and perhaps get a few nice shots; that's it.
Thanks a bunch in advance,
Rob Carmichael, Curator
The Wildlife Discovery Center

Rob,
You may try contacting Brian Aucone (Curator) at Oklahoma City Zoo, he and his crew would know of some good spots I would bet.

Glad you are coming to OKC, where I live. I have visited theis site regularly, but just now signed on. Generally, if you are seeking venomous in Oklahoma, the southwest is best for atrox, central and south central for prairies and massagua, southeast for cottonmouths and pretty much all over for copperheads. Lots of black rat, bull and common water snakes as well. State laws, I think, require a fishing or hunting license for field collections, and domestic species are supposedly forbidden to be kept, but of course that is widely ignored by many. Also, hope you can visit the OKC National Memorial during your visit. E-mail me if you want some info on that.
