I am writing a persuasive essay for school on why keeping venomous snakes should be legal in all states. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanx!

OK, since I have taught college essay writing for years, I'll try this one: Use the basic libertarian argument, i. e., that which does not intrindically cause harm should be permitted. Examples: Simply because cars have hazards we do not ban the ownership or use of cars by all because some might drive too fast. Same goes for swimming pools . . . kids can drown in them, but we don't outlaw them. On the flip side, we do have laws that regulate those things (you have to have a drivers license, most cities mandate fences around pools, etc. The same basic logic should apply to rattlesnakes . . . some sort of minimal caging requirements for the safety of neighbors.

Taylor: Mike makes a good point on how to agrue for the keeping of venomous snakes.
A group here on this site is doing the very same thing in trying to get good reptile legislation in the State of North Carolina.
You might want to check out the arguments they are presenting in trying to reach this goal at http://www.ncark.org/
Good luck with your report.
