well, i repel snakes and that's an actual fact.....they know i'm coming and disappear.....but in a local swamp, i finally found one.....it was a large cottonmouth in a small inlet about 10ft wide and 5 ft deep....i'd seen a lot of gar there before too and never thought a cottonmouth would find them suitable neighbors....thought i had seen some juveniles there earlier this year but damn, i'd spent so much time looking this year and came up empty and this made my day....gonna go back early in the morning on the way to work and see if i can spot it again.......for the area, it had VERY light coloration too.....

The great thing about looking for snakes in the wild is when you dont see any for ages, then suddenly you come across one and its so exciting!! I tell myself to be patient and keep looking. The law of averages state the more time you spend exploring snake habitat the likelyhood of you actually seeing a snake increases so just keep looking. Mark, UK.

The Currituck Sound up here on the N. OBX is full of Gar and Cottonmouths. Just an observation.

Glad to hear you finally got to see a Wild Cottonmouth. I will tell you that every time I see one it makes my Heart Pound, and that never seems to change, it just seems to get better every time I catch one, or see one for that mater. As for seeing them in and around Gar, most of the places I have caught Cottonmouth I saw Gar everywhere. Ricky, if you are still interested in going on a Herping Trip, drop me a line, or give me a Ring (if you still have my Phone Number) and we will try and set up a day.......................Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

wally, we definitely need to get together but i just can't promise when because my "herping" is usually done on a quick trip home from work, during lunch, on the way TO work, etc......very rarely is it set up and planned in advance, just have to see how things turn out.....my vacation time is gonna be spent in south florida but when i get back i'll try to get with you.....you seem to have 10x the luck i do (or maybe you know what you're doing lol) but we'll get together......
