i've been noticing that snakes around north alabama are shedding in patches like the humidity is low or something.....i think the humidity is just about normal for this time of year but today, i caught a big cane that was shedding in patches like that too, and then, later today a black kingsnake that was doing the same thing......i've been noticing shed skins looking like this too, not complete......what's going on?

I have noticed on a few of our Native Colubrids I caught, that the Skin is not coming off very well. I actually had to Pill some Skin off from around a Black Racers Eye that I caught. The Skin was truly stuck on very badly. I still don’t understand why this is happening, but I do agree with you that the Humidity has been High enough that it shouldn’t be causing any Shedding Problems. Who knows? ...................Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

the cane i caught yesterday from hampton cove (all those snakes are doomed so i'm catching and keeping/relocating all i can, new houses won't wait for them and i see about 20 dead rattlers a year) was like that and had skin coming off in patches so i soaked her last night for a while and then she shed what was left in one big piece......

I've just caught a prairie king with a couple of retained eyecups on one eye. I thought it was strange - I haven't noticed shedding problems on wild snakes before.

i saw a blind snake today that had the last 1/3 of it's shed still on........it's no hotter than usual really....humidity is about right.......what about added stress? the "natural" areas here are disappearing like crazy due to homebuilding and the dozers and large equipment have to be audible to the snakes hiding nearby, so i wonder if that has an effect?
