anyone that looked around the site too much is that less intelligent for it...i emailed the "author", not him or her...just used him as a generic description...like when the human race is talked about, no one says woman...its always man...why are u so defensive for "her" anyway....taking the high road to ridicule everyone would just be plain boring...i like when people dig in their heels and argue because when they finally give in or cry, whichever, i enjoy it.....screw being politcally correct and screw u buzz

My mistake! I thought that maybe your interest was in educating people about snakes and where they fit in and are needed by the environment.
I didn't realize that you were just trying to be a spoiler...starting up arguments with anyone who doesn't agree with you.
Interestingly enough, if you had learned more about this site, you would have found that I am one of the vice presidents of the Southeastern Hot Herp Society and my goals are directly inline with the goals of this organization. That places me far to the right of politically correct. I just choose to try to educate people rather than attack and ridicule them.
Truely a shame about that huge chip on your shoulder. I hope you outgrow it.

Yes, I received a few very venomous messages in my email this morning. The following was my reply:
Dear Snake-club boys,
I feel so important - I've been flamed by your whole little club! Seriously, though, it IS possible to express an opposing opinion without resorting to name-calling and veiled threats. But all that aside....
Lighten up! I can see that snakes are your passion and I respect that. However my whole web site is "anecdotal" in nature (look it up if you need to: http://www.yourdictionary.com/), and anyone who would consider it as a scientific record of fact is nuts (NOT that I'm implying YOU took it too seriously!).
On that basis, I stand by my stories on this subject. I witnessed one attack (whatever the snakes motivation may have been), and I repeat stories that people tell on the river. Some of them may be yarns, tall tales, exaggerations or outright lies - they are still a part of the lore of the river and the characters on it.
But, in the interests of world peace, I will make you an offer.....
While all of you expressed great concern that snakes were getting a bad *rap* from me, a couple of you (Shawn, Greg) were actually able to express yourselves in ways that opened the door to communication and knowledge. Here's my offer - produce information and links to counter my story, and I will make it into a web page and link it in so that your data can have as much exposure as my anecdote.
Since you are the snake experts, I eagerly anticipate the chance to read and share factual information on cottonmouth snakes and their habits. Since you are presenting "facts", I will review any submitted links and information to verify the accuracy of the information before putting it live.
Regards,
Peb

some are nice and understanding to people who don't respond to it.....others of us aren't that naive...either way, everyone's methods of getting the job done aren't the same...the best way to destroy the reputation of anyone would be through the media and whether the accusations are true or not, it hurts the person they were directed toward....i directed attention toward her site so that others would ridicule her(whom i again referred to as the author) if we were to inform her to the point where she viewed snakes as beneficial and she understood that, great but will it happen....sure and i might win the next big lottery....i inform everyone willing to listen everyday but people that dont care are just that...people who dont care...just like religion, some of the worst wars are because of difference in opinion about it but did they help AT ALL...no...will they ever...no....i do like to argue...it's healthy...did i threaten or try to intimidate her, no cuz that's dumb when you're sending email...thats not beneficial...do i do any good for our hobby...you're damn right i do....my mom, who successfully ran over 13 snakes last year on purpose hasnt done it this year and won't again i hope...she won't cuddle up with my rattler but she is allowing me to have my cottonmouths shipped to her house because i probably won't be home and she will so i can get them sooner and easier....that's a bigger step than when they landed on the moon in my opinion....trust me...but we agree that education is the best way to help our cause but if i feel comfortable judging someone as a lost cause...im gonna do it...it makes life interesting...and as for the chip...thats one of my dads favorite, used-up cliches....but no harm done...

I got a reply from my e-mail, it follows as this.
Please excuse the form letter, but since you were all sending the same message
(with variations in the amount of venom spewed) let me just reply to you all at once:
