Chris when I see that, it makes me sick to my stomach. I feel hatred to the people who do that, and sadness for the snakes. People are the most destructive animal on the face of this Earth.

I could not have said it better myself, I can't believe that this is still allowed, aren't there animal cruelty laws that prevent this!?

Yeah, there are cruelty laws that are enforced, but not there, and the snakes are not warm and fuzzy bunnies or seal pups either. Animal rights are unknown especially when the law enforcing good old boys are part of the crowd...remember alot of these roundups are for the Jaycees.
I hope the rattlesnake gets in a good one!
just f*in sick of roundups.
My new saying...The more people I meet the more I like rattlesnakes.

The crazy part is that for states like Al and Ga, without the round ups there will be no venomous keepers either. Round ups are the loophole that has kept native venomous ownership legal.

Right Andrew, and it is still legal to gas tortoise burrows in Alabama. Opp has a roundup yearly, and alot of the Eastern Diamondbacks have been gassed out of tortoise burrows. Their proud to say it too. Since I have a website online that advertises my phone number, I have this guy that calls me every year asking if I will buy diamondbacks that have been gassed! I have basically told him where to go and he still calls once a year. He is aparently not bright enough to get the message. Those animals are facing certain death, anyway you look at it. Loopholes, they are everywhere.

Even though the Loophole of roundups did help keep venomous snake keeping legal in Georgia, we have made some progress over time.
Twenty to thirty years ago, there were about 12 different little South Georgia towns who had roundups each spring, now, it is only about 2 towns who still have active roundups.
Some of this can be attributed to education, and, unfortunatly, some of it can be attributed to over collecting of rattlesnakes to the point that the round up folks could no longer find them.
Best Regards JohnZ

ok maybe im missing something here and please correct me if i am but you asked if anyone else liked being skunked when they went herping and you were wondering why the replies i saw jumped to human cruelty then to rattlesnake round ups maybe i missed something lol but isnt that a little off subject although i do agree with there answers as far as human cruelty goes and i agree on the rattle snake round ups its just we need to be very careful on how we fight that battle because some off the laws they would pass to stop the round ups would also stop our hobby as well but to answer your question yes i have been skunked and i think it has to do with a snake being alot better weatherman than we ever could dream of lol
