Are you considering getting a gaboon as a first venomous??? In my opinion i wouldent start with a gaboon...I would start with a copperhead or a pygmy rattler...But if you do get a gaboon will u have access to the proper AV??? Keep in mind AV can be very pricey...Do u have the proper set up for a gaboon??? Do u have all the proper tools??? Im all for young people to keep venomous simply because im young but still i wouldent start with a gaboon...I didnt get my first gaboon until october of this year and ive been working with venomous for almost 3 years now...Just consider what ur getting into..

What snaeks are you working with now? Or what snakes have you been working wiht? If you need more info let us no. Were are you located? I no a local breeder were live. Thats were i got mine. He has awsome snakes. Im in Michigan. Young herpers are the future lol. Be safe.

gaboons are not the best hot, especially for a 14 year old. not being mean, but read this site a little more(go back in this section) and read what others have said about first hots.

Gregory, are you a member of the Kansas City Herpetological Society, or the Kansas Herpetological Society in Lawrence?
I know both of these locations are about 120 miles from where you live, but they publish news-letters and have field herping trips. If you were to become a subscribing member, you would probably see adds for local folks selling animals, and might be able to find a Pygmy Rattlesnake that way. It would also help you meet folks who you could go field herping with.
Google both of them and take a look at their web sites.
Also Google Kansas City Reptile Show. They have one coming up on January 21, 2007, and several others during the year. A show like that might be the best place to purchase a captive born Pygmy Rattlesnake.
Hope this helps. Best Regards JohnZ

All my pygmy rattlers are very easy to deal with...I dont know of any breeders near where you are though...And your first venomous snake isnt always gonna be your favorite...I mean my favorites are eyelash viper and rhino vipers...And ive been dealing with venomous for almost 3 years now and just recently got my self a rhino...All im trying to say is take ur time dont be in such a big rush to get a gaboon...And if u dont like rattlers so much then start with a copperhead...Just start slow and be safe...You can email me if u have any ?s...

Pygmy's are little, but they are no trouble to work with.. I have one and he eats well, rides a small hook well, not aggressive. I love that little guy.. Got to be the easiest snake I have to work with. Bryan
