Right now Im working on a snake box to keep in the back of my truck and its made of untreated wood. I've put a lot of work into it and I dont want it to ruin like my last one. I was wondering if using a water sealent on the box would harm a snake?

Kyle,
Use something like water-based Polyurathane, or water-based Spar-Varnish, not oil based.
Use two or three coats, and let them dry completly, and let the box air out in the sun for several days, then wash the surface with soap and water.
Do not use products like Thompsons Water Seal or other deck sealing products.
Hope this helps.

Kyle, I would seal both the inside and outside of the cage. You might want to drill a few small drain holes in the sides near the botton, just incase the box traps water from rain. You also might want to drill some vent holes near the top of the sides. These could slope "upward and inward" and would let heat out and also keep rain out of the box. It is amazing how hot a box like that can get in the back of a pickup truck. Always park in the shade when you have animals in the box.
Best Regards JohnZ
