There is a Bartlett and Bartlett book "Reptiles and Amphibians of the Amazon" Good book, great pictures. The only thing I really don't like abou it is there are no range maps.

The problem with Mexico and Bolivia is that they are both Megadiversity countries. There are more species going extinct in those countries than are being described and each has way more herp diversity than the U.S. There are also very few scientists studying these regions, Bolivia imparticular. Because there are so many herps and such a limited knowledge on them, neither Mexico nor Bolivia have good field guides (except Baja California, thanks to Lee Grismer). But there are some field guides that may help depending on what part of Mexico/Bolivia you are in.
What part of Bolivia/Mexico will you be in? If you are in Northwestern Bolivia (where I was) then the book Cusco Amazonico (Duellman 2005) might be useful. I was there before the book came out so it did me no good. But my fiance had an advanced copy of it when she was in Peru and it helped a lot.
For Bolivia you may try this website: http://www.herpetology-bolivia.com/englishstart2.htm . It has a list of a lot of the herps there. You can google the scientific names and get some images of certain species. I tried to look through it before I went but couldn't memorize half of it. It just takes years to know the stuff while you travel around and catch things. I didn't know hardly anything I caught in South America and we even caught a couple new species. For amphibians there is a great website http://www.globalamphibians.org/index.html . You can search by country and Bolivia comes up with a list of 209 described species, along with distribution maps if I remember correctly. There are surely many more species than that but it is a start.
Hope this helps,
Robert

Personally I discourage bringing the Bartlett book. It won't be much use to you in Bolivia. You will find very few species in that book as it only shows the most commonly known species. You'll be lucky to identify the genus of most of what you catch. Take a lot of photos and identify them later.

Chip, if you are going to be in the far Southern part of Mexico, there is a "Reptiles of Central America"
by Gunther Kohler and Larry David Wilson that might be of use. Has great photos but costs about $100.00, used. Many of the snakes in Central America are also found in extreme Southern Mexico.
As far as Bolivia, that one will be much more difficult. I do not know of any books other than the large volumes you mentioned that would be of much use.
Hope this helps.

Chip, here is something I found that might help:
Michael B. Harvey, James Aparicio E., and Lucindo Gonzalez A. 2003. Revision of the venomous snakes of Bolivia: Part 1. The coral snakes (Elapidae: Micrurus). Annals of Carnegie Museum of Natural History 72:1-52.
Michael B. Harvey, James Aparicio E., and Lucindo Gonzalez A. 2003. Revision of the venomous snakes of Bolivia: Part 2. The Pitvipers (Serpentes: Viperidae). Annals of Carnegie Museum of Natural History . (In Press)
Michael Harvey can be contacted at:

Hope this helps. Best Regards JohnZ

A few in my library of note are:
Herpetology of Brazil: Spix and Wagler
Notes on the Hertetofauna of Surinam IV: M.S. Hoogmed
Biologica Centralia-Americana/Reptilia and Batrachia: Gunther
Synopsis of the Herpetofauna of Mexico/Vol. I-VI: Johnson
Hylid Frogs of Middle America: Duellman
Brazilian Species of Hyla: Lutz
All good references, perhaps a little big and not much in the way of photos though.
