Ok because of the cold weather my drain to my washing machine froze and when it went to drain sprayed all over the place, frying the mother board in my dryer.. So a friend and I had to take my laundry to the pay machines... While there I was wearing my Mid-west Tongs shirt and the owner of the Laundry mat saw it and started asking me questions, he says he is not in love with snakes, but does respect them, but he is a birder and some Black Rat Snakes have been trying to get his birds, so he took my name and number and this spring wants me to remove them from his farm to some place else.. Ok the story does not stop there..A man over heard our conversation and came up to me and asked if I see Timber Rattlers around here, I told him I personally have not , but I have seen pictures of some found close to my house, then he informed me he lives close to the mountains and owns 4000 acres, and every spring/summer his friends and him see them while out riding ATV's and invited me to come down there and he even said he would put us up in a 6 bedroom cabin that he owns... It does not stop there, I guess there is a place down there that is researching the venom, and also trying to breed them and reestablish them in our state, and has the ability to give us a card that says we are legal to collect these reps for them?! I do not know if all this that he has told me is true, but I feel it would not hurt to check everything out?
What do you all think? He swore to me that no one harms these animals, that they only milk, breed them for the venom research and to reestablish, I was just thinking if I could get a card that says I am legally allowed to keep one that would be cool?!
Not only does he have acsess to the reps, but he also lives close to some caverns, waterfalls, some really cool caves that he and his friends own and he said he could get us permission to check all these out..
He was an older gentleman around 50+ and who knows, may just want to make new/younger herping friends???

There is no one that I know of in WV doing venom extractions. If they are there is little use for their venom at this time. Sounds like a tall tale so be careful.

Notice he said they were researching the venom, NOT selling it to researchers. If some college in WV is doing extractions for their own research, that's not necessarity the kind of thing you would have heard about.

I know most of the people at the schools in WV working with Crotalus horridus because Kristen is doing work here in KY on tracking them. I have also heard this story about Crotalus used here and in WV by hide hunters. He needs to check it out with DNR.

Guys I will have this checked out, and I still need to get a hold of this guy and to ask him more questions, but I thought I would ask the experts like you all what you thought of this.. I am not trying to start a fight, but if this is a legit thing it may be cool to participate in, so we will see, I will post anything I find out about this even if it is good or bad... Thanks for all your support, and yes I will definately watch my back.. Shawn
