For anyone in the area or traveling through, you might want to take in the new Oklahoma Trails exhibit at the Oklahoma City Zoo, which opened last week. Along with wolves, cougars, grizzlies, etc., the exhibit includes the best herp display I have ever seen -- a huge landscape behind glass with every major snake species native to Oklahoma (two varieties of copperheads, cottonmouths, WDB, prairie rattler, a massive timber rattler, a huge bull snake, etc. You can stand there for a good while watching the various snakes prowl their habitats, often from literally six inches away. Well worth the trip!

Like to add that the atrox were collected from here in Abilene, a West Texas gift for our friends at OKC!

Gee, it's not like we have a shortage of atrox up here. Talked to a guy last spring who had been down in SW Oklahoma and said they were thick on the ground.
But they are some pretty specimens in that exhibit . . . though the timber rattler (about 4 feet and thick as your thigh) is the best I have ever seen.
