Hi...
I'm not sure whether or not you folks can identify this snake. I don't believe it's venemous; but I'm finding so many of them this year that I'm worried about them crossing paths with my grandkids.
They're typically only about 10 inches long, and slate grey in color. Their head is usually the same diameter of their body, and the same color. I've been finding them in nest of about 7 in each nest. The bunch I found an hour ago had one that was larger than those that I'll call the babies. It was about 12 inches long, with the babies being about 6 inches long. Any ideas ? If you can contact me, I'll send you some pix that I took of the largest one that I caught.
Hopefully, you can see the pictures I'm trying to attach. Okay... how do I attache these pictures ? I realize you don't have any hope of identifying them without the pix.
Thanks !

P.S.
I've found at least 15 of them within 20 feet of each other near the house; and I just found about 7 more in the backyard about 150 feet away in a hole in the ground where I planted a Banana Tree.
By the way, last summer I donated a Coral Snake that I caught to someone via this website. I was hoping that you might be able to tell me how to contact them in order to request some pictures of the snake for my photo album. I simply forgot to take the pix before the guy came and picked it up.

Tell us where you are located, as that could help ID the snakes. From your general description, it sounds like a harmless species . . . perhaps some kind of earth snake, or the young of species like the racer or coachwhip. As a general rule, North American snakes with narrow heads (aside from the coral snake, which you already know) are not venomous.

We would be glad to help you identify these snakes. Place the pictures in the photo album or in photobucket on the internet. It would also help us greatly if you gave us your location. I don't believe I saw it in your profile or post.

Ed, you can upload your photos to the "Snakes For Identification" section of our Photo Album, found in the black menu on the left of this page.
Please include the location of the nearest Town and what State you are located in.
From you descriptions, you are dealing with a harmless snake.
Also, you could sent a photo of the snakes to me at jzegel@mindspring.com
Best Regards JohnZ

I think a really good way for people seeking snake IDs to post photos is to put the photo in their profile pic like that beaver guy did with the green watersnakes. That would save us from having to navigate all the way to the end of the snakes for ID photo gallery and it would make certain everyone is looking at the correct pic.

Chad, I might just take that bet, LOL.
The 3 photos are very blurry, and one is not usable at all. One photo sooks somewhat like a Texas Brown Snake, but is lacking the vertebral stripe and pattern, so I am pretty sure that it is not Storeria.
The other usable photo shows a plump glossy looking tan colored snake without any pattern, and a slightly darker head.
Considering the area of Texas that Ed lives in, it is probably going to be a patternless Ground Snake or Earth Snake.
I have asked him to try to get a sharper photo for us.
Best Regards JohnZ

perhaps a young rat snake or coachwhip, do a google image search of gray snakes in______, this should give you an idea on what snake it is but they are harmless judging from the description.
I wouldn't worry about it, if anything, they are keeping the rodent population down ;-)
