I pruchased a baby albino monocled cobra last year at the age of 27. I rencently sold the snake I had it about a year. I bought it knowing that if I felt like I got in over my head I would sell it.
I never had a problem working with the snake and it was only 3ft give or take. I decided that I would not be ready for this snake at 6ft if it kept the same temperment. So I sold it and took a step back for now till I can find a mentor and get some more exsperience with elapids.
I will aquire a few elapids someday but for know sticking with the vipers.

Yea I completley understand you selling it. Monocled Cobras (Well Cobras in General) are certainly a handful to work with. What elapids do you plan on getting? I had always been fond of Taipans, about 3 Months after working with that BIG Female Green Mamba, I decided I was ready for a PNG Taipan. I know it isnt recomended keeping ANY hots that young (Much less Elapids) but I couldn't wait :^)

Well after I gain some exsperience. I plan on getting a leucistic monocled, another albino monocled, and a pair of red spitter.
Those are really the only 3 elapids I'm interested in keeping personally. I now have some good exsperience on my own but would like to learn from someone who deals with them often.

You are showing a lot of wisdom by not rushing into this. I didn't start working with elapids until my 20's so you are doing just fine. You may find that its just not for you. Personally, I enjoy working with Crotalines (particularly rattlesnakes) far more but that's just me. When I read about 14 year olds working with elapids it tells me that our hobby has a long way to go before showing its responsibility, maturity and dedication to showing some level of professionalism to the rest of the world. Not trying to start a fight but there's no way a youngster should be messing with venomous herps until they have matured, gotten their own place, gain years of experience and get mentored under a solid professional.

And even when I was 14, I knew what I was doing. My father was very experianced in the keeping of Venomous Animals. I wasn't some kid wanting to impress my friends with a dangerous animal. And like I said before, I had no intentions on waiting until I was 18 years of age.

Rob,
Taipan man posts on several sites. On one he brags about self injecting and then states he gets bitten most often when milking his snakes. Proper handling would do away with having to self inject.
I think that someone is telling tall tales again.
