Hey guys,
I am looking into moving to Arizona and am trying to find info on their laws regarding venomous snakes. I found this info:
Native Venomous: No permit is required, however other restrictions
apply. Please contact Arizona Game and Fish
Department for all the details
Exotic Venomous: Permit is required
Protected Native Venomous: Permit required
Rock Rattlesnake (Crotalus lepidus)
Twin Spotted Rattlesnake (Crotalus pricei)
Ridgenosed Rattlesnake (Crotalus willardi)
Massasauga (Sistrurus catenatus)
Gila Monster
Arizona Game and Fish Department
Permits Coordinator
2221 W. Greenway Road
Phoenix, AZ 85023
Does anybody know the details on the permit? Qualifications, cost etc? Obviously I don't care how much it costs and I have plenty of experience I guess I want to know how hard it is to get a permit in AZ?

It's not that bad. You just have to explain your experience to them and they will (if you're approved) authorize you to keep venomous species. They do their authorization species by species so there is no "blanket" venomous permit. I know there are people who don't agree with this, but AZ Game and Fish Officers are very helpful. There is a Supervisor in Tucson who has been into all types of herps for decades. Also look at the AZ Herp Ass.'s website (www.sloanmonster.com). You can call their hotline and ask for Jerry. He knows it all.
For the non-protected native species, you can have up to 4 rattlersnakes of each species without a permit.
Good luck and enjoy AZ. It's a GREAT place for herping!

They *dont* hand out those permits. Ever. It just doesnt happen. Ive lived there a couple of times, had an education permit for a Gila and was Education and Shows Director for the Arizona Herpetological Association. It just doesnt happen for exotic non-native venomous. They dont want them there at all. Good luck.

I lived in AZ for several years. I agree with AJ! You have a better chance of capturing Osama Bin Laden than AZ issuing you an Exotic Species Permit. It just won't happen.

I was informed by an AZ game and fish officer, that they "absolutely will not even consider issuing a permit to a private individual" However I am aware of at least one private individual who has such a permit,he ,also is a member of the AHA. But this is all hush hush info. unless you are , and I quote ( A higher up G&F officer informed me of this) "wealthy & in good with the department".
By the way , if you are planning to move to AZ, Don't even consider bringing exotics into the state, this includes natives i.e. C.atrox, C.scutalatus, etc. from another state. They ARE considered "exotic". They will confiscate and kill your animals.
