Snake Day at Sandy Creek Nature center in Athens is well worth the drive. Many local herpers and herp societies get together and set up displays. They usually draw at least a couple of thousand people.
Plus you'll get to meet some really great field herpers and pick their brains for tips :-)
It's the first Saturday in June.
If you have herp interested friends in the area let them know.
