I have spent considerable time in the North Georgia Mountains searching for Crotalus horridus and I have had some moderate success. I have located several caves, bald rock faces and fissures and have caught several snakes in said areas. I am interested to hear of other herpers accounts concerning horridus in the North GA Mountains. This is only my second season in the mountains and I feel I have done well. Quite a change from hunting South Georgia. Any feedback or interesting stories would be lovely.

Daniel, North Georgia mountain horridus can be tricky. Though they do act in the same manner as their northern cousins (den sites, sizes, habits, etc...), does not mean that they can be found as easily or in as great of numbers as horridus farther north. As far as their range, technically you could find one in every county spanning across the N. Ga mtns. Unfortunately, they ARE becoming scarce and SHOULD be kept on the "hush-hush" when located. It would be a devastating loss for our Ga mtn horridus to dissapear.
On another note, it is great that you have found some snakes up there!
thanks
