To Curt & Crystal & all who read this:
I took the time, tools, etc to go down to Curt & Crystal's place in Blythewood SC, Saturday.
Little did Matt know, TD Barry was heading towards their location. I came fully prepared for any EDB's encountered. Was Matt prepared for TD Barry? Uh, NO! A rain out for locating any snakes...but, I took the drive anyway. Crystal shared with me, that someone from here said they could come the 16th and 17th, but I bit first. Showing up only 48 hours after seeing their first 7" in diameter, EDB, I noticed lots of hiding places. With their livestock (rabbits), in a pen, made from hardware cloth (thick gauge wire mesh), the feed falls to the ground. This brings in many wild rabbits (cotton tail).
You're getting a picture now that their location is "prime" for the EDB's to survive. I've often heard that they would not be located north of the middle of Georgia. Well, I'm waiting for a picture snapped on their next sighting of this beast. Canebrakes are present, as S.C. State, or the county has named a street Canebrake Lane (or avenue...can't remember). But, as far as EDB's are concerned, I'm waiting to see, if in fact, they can capture one on film (or in this day and age...digital image - disk).
I plan to take another trip this Saturday to find, film, and snap still photos of any venomous located. I'm taking along a videographer this time, to follow me...so as not to be exposed (yes, he'll still be exposed, but the chances are lessened by following my steps) to any venomous specimen.
On a side note, this couple has reared other reptiles, exposing their 4 y.o. son to. This present a bigger problem than the price of gas spent to go from MD to mid-SC. I plan to simply relocate said specimen, except for any Aggie's encountered, of which will make their way back to VA. Oh yes, I do have property in VA, but live in MD...making it easier to look after them, but be legal at the same time.
This couple, should anyone encounter, are the epitome of Southern Hospitality...so, please show some manners, if they invite you into their home. Thank you guys.
Cheers,
MJ

Hey,
Here is a range map I've worked on for EDBs. Blythewood is a little out of any documented sightings I have. Snakes rarely read range maps to make sure they are where they are supposed to be though. If you do document one there could you please forward the photo to me? Thanks much in advance.

Chad,
You know I'll post it. I plan to avi it, along with jpegs. I will document the trip...hence why taking a videographer with me. I do plan to scrutinize this down to local...with 5 miles. I would love to have 3 weeks to do so, but the funding isn't available. I will take the weekend to document what I can. This would be the farthest north I've heard of, in eons (not sure of the spelling and it's not in the dictionary...LOL). To establish yet a new boundary, would help all of us.
I am quite hesitant though, so as not to divulge too much, we all know how poachers are. I would like to redraw the maps that Campbell and Lamar have in the VRWHl. This would be an incredible find. I'll keep everyone posted...but will not divulge the location, so as to keep it from being overrun with go-getters.

I have a very dirt, very old, hat. I am fully prepared to eat it if you find adamanteus in Blythewood. Consider that hillbillies in the mtns. regularly refer to horridus as "diamondbacks" (not to mention they get 12' long. I suspect you may find canebrakes, but EDB's...no way.
Good Luck,
Matt King
