I know they aren't venomous but I thought I'd ask anyway because you guys seem to know your stuff.
I'm going to attempt to breed my pair of common boas for the first time this season and I was wondering if the Boa Constrictor Manual is a good source of breeding info.
I also have a question that isn't in the book. How often do you introduce and then remove the male and for how long? Is it like one week in and one week out or something else?
Going by the book, I'm going to feed my female for the last time this weekend and then introduce the male to her cage on the weekend of Sept. 29-30. Then from there I'm kind of confused as to how long to leave him in her cage and when to take him out.
I realize that boas can be bred using dozens of methods but I think it will be nice to have an accurate book to reference. Thanks for any and all info!

Although I am by no means a boa specialist, I have worked with quite a few and still keep a small group at my facility. Ironically, my best success in breeding them is when I did nothing by the book - just keep 'em together with very little temp fluctuations and voila, baby boas. It may have been luck but sometimes in captive breeding, the harder we try, the less success we have (with certain species). HOWEVER, with all things being equal, I would recommend the boa manual to guide you through a good protocol that has been proven over the course of time. I would recommend introducing for a two weeks on, two weeks off rather than by the week. These animals can be slow to get in the mood and a week may not give them enough time. Also, keeping an eye on breeding behavior will also dictate how long they stay together. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Rob. I guess I'll go by the 2 weeks in then 2 weeks out method, as I've read that other places as well. Now my question is, for how long do I use that 2 week cycle?
