Soberwolf, the excellent Rattlesnake books written by Laurence M. Klauber still get a lot of use by researchers. However, due to changes in scientific names over the years, and new research, they are not a good choice for someone wanting to learn about Rattlesnakes.
Try these books which are often available on Amazon used at good prices:
Rattler!: A Natural History of Rattlesnakes by Chris Mattison
RATTLESNAKE by Manny Rubio (Excellent Book)
A Field Guide to Western Reptiles and Amphibians- Peterson Field Guides by Robert C. Stebbins and Roger Tory Peterson
Also, the Arizona Game and Fish Commission has a lot of great information on Rattlesnakes and other reptiles on their website.
As far as slamming you, I have not done that at all. Anytime someone visits the site for the first time, we ask them to fill in their profile. If I had not asked you to do that, one of the other site managers would have. We like to know who we are talking with and their experience level before answering questions about venomous snakes.
Look at it this way, what if a stranger called you up and started asking questions about landscaping. And they did not even have the courtesy to introduce themselves, or tell you anything about why they wanted landscaping information. The person could be from a rival landscaping outfit with bad intentions. They could be from a news crew. They could be a disgruntled customer of yours. You would not want to start answering questions until you knew who you were talking with and something about them.
It is the same here, and a site policy that people need to fill in their profiles and give at least minimal information. Now that you have done that, folks will know who you are and a little about you, and will probably be more than willing to help answer your questions.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards JohnZ
