Could someone ID what kind of baby snake I found in the basement. I live in Maryland.

It looks like Elaphe guttata emoryi
Great Plains (or Emory's) Rat Snake
If you will (liberally) apply some vegetable oil it will wiggle it's way off that glue trap. You might wish to keep it until it sheds again before you release it.

Based on it being a wild caught juvenile rat snake from the Maryland area - I would say that it is DEFINITELY a Black Rat Snake (whatever latin name you want to call it this week).

This is no mystery! I am shocked at the number of varied responses from people who claim to know what they are talking about. That is a black ratsnake. It is common and found in great numbers in your area. BLACK RATSNAKE!!! Wow!!!

I didn't notice the "Maryland" reference either. At least I got the "rat snake" part right. ;)
The variances between localities is sometimes pretty subtle.
