I can't believe this guy is asking people to donate money to pay for his lawyer fees ect. He dug his own hole he signed the lease. What a character I shouldn't even post this it's almost like advertising for him but it's original I'll give him that.
Wonder how many people he can convince he is fighting for our rights to keep reptiles and not just his own.

I sort of understand where you're coming from (about youtube), but...
I wonder when was the last time you were in a book store? :) 100 to 1 is about the ratio of crap to useful books these days. That doesn't mean books are a bad medium, just that you need to be selective.
We have 150 satellite channels and I'm in front of my computer right now because there isn't squat on that I want to watch.
There is some neat stuff on youtube, you just have to have an idea of what you'd like to see and be willing to spend a few minutes searching...
If 99% of what is there is trash so what? Don't watch it.

hey Joe, so is it educational or stunt?
anyway, I was referring to a conversation under different topic on this forum, see middle of page 2 on this topic, which will get u to bikini/vodka/tong topic
http://www.venomousreptiles.org/forums/Experts/34285?page=2
Anyway, seems like i am not imagining it that this year we have more rattlers in Mohave desert,and soon too, so I am sure I will be busy with 'tonging' or 'trashing' (broom/trash can') rattlers this years, regarding of what if anything I am wearing:
http://www.vvdailypress.com/news/adelanto_5705___article.html/coming_season.html
<snip>
“There will definitely be more bites this year,” said Banashek.
Because of the greenery and general yard maintenance, residents — especially in rural areas — will be at a higher risk this year because of the increased number of snakes, Banashek said.
Although there is expected to be an increased number of Mojave Greens this year, next year Banashek said he expects to see even more.
<snip>
Anyway, to continue back on the subject of venomous experts forum, is this news statement true?
I assume not, isn't it supposed to be black mamba or the VA WalMart 'invisible snake', Fer-de-lance?
http://www.havasunews.com/articles/2008/03/19/news/doc47e1e4aee71e5138374490.txt
SNIP
The Mojave Desert is home to the Western rattlesnake and the Mojave Green rattlesnake, which injects a powerful neuro-toxin along with its venom. The Mojave Green is considered the most toxic rattlesnake in the world.

Other than his venomous snake videos he seems to be a decent keepers and some of his videos are alright. I give everyone the benifit of the doubt. I don't know the guy so I cannot say to much bad about him although he has brought all this trouble upon himself
My point was I can't believe he's asking for donation to fight for our rights to keep reptiles when that is not the case at all. He's fighting the lease he signed not the laws. He's also asking for 10,000 well $10.00 from 1000 subscribers. That a whole lot of cake and he is not using the money to fight for our rights to keep reptiles as he claims.

Well Z, I think your wearing a bikini would not be considered a stunt. It would be more of something to get folks to watch your videos. And based on the other videos, there is good Educational value in them, so once they start watching the video, they will learn something. The bikini did work quite well with the lion videos !
Working with venomous snakes is a lot safer with snake boots and jeans, just because they provide some protection against a bite. We see many photos of folks working with venomous snakes while barefoot or in socks, which is dangerous if a snake were to be dropped off of a hook or tong. I would hope that in your videos that you will hold the rattlesnake with the tongs far away from you, so that if it did drop from the tongs or hook, that it would not land on your legs or feet. This would be easier to see from the side than from a front shot.
As far as the “There will definitely be more bites this year” and the "I assume not, isn't it supposed to be black mamba or the VA WalMart 'invisible snake', Fer-de-lance?" I am not sure I follow what the question is? Are there some years where there will be slightly larger rattlesnake populations? Quite possible do to years with mild winters. Will there be more bites in years like that ? Again, quite possibly.
Almost everywhere there are snake populations, there are more and more people moving into the snake's habitat each year, thus more human to snake encounters, however, not necessicarily more snakes out there, perhaps just more people.
And Larry, you are so right about the junk on TV and the internet and bookstores. I have not watched TV in 7 months now, and except for missing shows like National Georgaphic, I do not miss most of it at all.
I have been in a book store only about twice in about 15 years now because of all the junk there that folks consider literature. I do quickly sort through the 99 junk videos to find one good one, it is just frustrating that has to be done that way. Perhaps in time as UTube matures, there will be a higher ratio of quality viedos posted, at least I sure hope so.
Best Regards JohnZ

Exactly. With any luck, as the novelty of being able to say you have a video up wears a little thin and the more serious people improve their technique, it may mature into something more worthwhile.
The problem I have is that any strategy for weeding out the crap would inevitably be used to block videos for reasons other than quality. To me, it's worth putting up with the crap to keep that from happening.
