Gee, why don’t they run story what would you do if sexually assaulted by alien in bikini, or hit on the head by a meteorite, that is more likely to happen than uninvolved general public being bitten by cobra

What would you do if you were bitten by a cobra?

Medical help came from Miami to try to save a man who was bitten by a cobra, similar to the one pictured.
So, we wanted to find out what people should do if they ever find themselves the victim of a bite.
When a person is bit by a cobra, its venom is released. Venom is a neurotoxin, and once it gets into a person's body it takes away the person's ability to breathe unaided, and the consequences can be fatal.
"We have had cases where patients, 5, 10, 15 minutes after being bitten, have gone through respiratory failure."
Without intervention he says they would've died. The chances of getting bitten here in Central Florida are slim, because cobras aren't native reptiles. Captain Jillson says if you ever find yourself in a situation where a cobra may be around, you should always be cautious of your surroundings...and if you do get bitten, "you need to get to a hospital quick."
Wednesday, 50-year-old Jack Hildreth was bitten on his right thumb by his pet cobra. Hildreth has a permit from Florida Fish and Wildlife to own venomous reptiles. Spokeswoman Joy Hill says 20 vials of anti-venin were flown in from Miami-Dade County in hopes of saving this man's life.

The least they could have done is answer the question.
Apply a compression bandage & then call 911.
I suspect that a compression bandage was not used, in light of the reports that the man was in rough shape shortly after the incident.

It is interesting that the guy was bitten just past midnight, and the first 10 vials of Antivenom did not arrive until early morning ?
Sounds like there might have been a bit of a delay in ordering the AV, or in getting it to the hospital ?
The fellow keeping the Cobra should have had his own supply of Antivenom. Perhaps the venomous keepers in Florida are counting too much on Venom 1 being there to bail them out if they mess up and get bitten ?

Cro, I don't know what the timeline was like and maybe you read an article I haven't read yet. I'd just like to point out that "just after midnight" is already "early morning", so that doen't necessarily imply there was any delay (or really impart much useful information at all).

Larry, I have read a couple of dozen news articles so far about this bite, and several have stated the time line a bit differently.
It is true that "just after midnight" is already "early morning", however, some report suggested that the Antivenom was not ordered until much later the next day.
I am not saying that Venom 1 was any cause of delay, I am sure after they were notified, they got the Antivenom to the hospital as quickly as possible.
It would not surprise me though if there was a delay at the hospital in ordering the Antivenom. If the man was unconsious, perhaps they wanted to confirm the type of snake that bit him before they ordered the AV ?
If all they had was a telephone call to 911 to go on, and an now unconsious person who has only said they were bitten by a cobra, then taking the time to find out the type of cobra is essential.
The fact that they treated the man with 10 vials of Antivenom that he did not respond to, and that they then ordered 10 vials of a Different Antivenom that he did respond to, tends to suggest that there might have been some confusion that could have caused a delay of some sort.
Really just trying to read between the lines here a bit. Not trying to provide "usefull" information. I will let the news papers do that, LOL !
Best Regards JohnZ

"Really just trying to read between the lines here a bit."
I understand. I just meant that doing that can be an execise in futility when the lines are sloppily drawn to start with...
"Not trying to provide "usefull" information. I will let the news papers do that, LOL !"
Sorry, I was talking about the newspapers giving no useful information, by combining terms like "just after midnight" and "early morning".
