I have a big thing for the terrestrial vipers, but lemme answer the 3rd question first. A king cobra is a bad idea period for your next hot, a large, territorial, HIGHLY intelligent elapid like that is no comparision for the afore animals mentioned, not to say that they cant both kill you but the behavior is not the same. If you are interested in elapids start with a smaller naja (non spitter) and work from there. I got in deep fast (i remember one night, and 18yo, unbagging something like 8 WC adult import indo kings) and GOD knows how i didnt wind up in the er from those. Echis are a personal favorite, you will learn that each hot herper finds his/her niche. A large group are mainly into aboreals, others cobras and mambas, rattler keepers, and so on. So start w small strides. Sawscales are like the pigmy rattler of the mideast, small uber aggressive, hook like wet noodles, and overall can be tempermental, twitchy, finicky captives. That being said, if you do get them to thrive they can be awesome display animals. There are several ssp, my personal favorites are multisquamatus or russian ssp, seem to be a bit more tolerant in captivity to different conditions, bp, humidity etc, but I am sure someone out there may disagree. They dont grow large and have TINY offspring, though i thing some pigmys are harder to get eating rodents than adult echis (again individual animals, individual personalities). Hope that helps you out a little,
Jared

Echis are neat animals but do need alot of respect and the right antivenom. Kristen will be doing a progam at IHS this year on breeding different Echis and maintaining them for venom production.

Email off our website kyreptilezoo.org and tell me which snake you are getting . We can point you in the direction of antivenom providers. Also check out our venom extraction from Echis video . Our website links to videos on youtube.
