Yes I would support a CB only show in SC. Whatever it takes to keep the rattlesnake preachers and poachers from showing up! I have not been to a show in about two years simply because it’s an irritation to see the crud that comes in.

Interesting idea but difficult to translate into reality.
The only way it would ever work is if some sort of accrediting body could verify the claims of the vendor.
Also, how would fraud be uncovered and subsequently dealt with?
Just curious.

If there is to be a trial CB show in SC, then it should be a third Columbia Show.
Everybody already knows the location, the hotels, the restaraunts, etc. From a logistical standpoint, that would make the most sense.
Coastal SC is just too far for a weekend show, unless it is in the summer, where the trip could be tied into further vacation.
And towns like Aiken are just too wierd. ( too close to the SRP, too many unreported spills, and too much leakage into the groundwater and air over the years ).
Best Regards John Z

I have been thinking about this a lot and I still end up straddling the fence. Mostly because of the problems in verification of cb status. It would certainly eliminate the several tables that I don't think had any cb herps on their tables. I was sort of surprized at Daniels response that he had not been in a couple of years because of all the wild caught animals. Before his comment, I would have said that it would make relatively little difference in the attendance...but I have been wrong before. I still think what we need is to discourage or prohibit those individuals that have obviously been collecting wild caught rattlesnakes, copperheads, and box turtles. I can't believe that they are able to clear any profits with the costs of gas, tables, etc.
Everyone has chimed in on the obviously stressed animals that should be taken off the tables. Perhaps we (SHHS) could come up with a brochure or flyer that could be handed out at the door just explaining the differences between captive born and wild caught animals. That might be an interesting topic for a thread here and it could just be summarized for the flyer. I would guess that more than half the people that come through the door and maybe even half the people that buy an animal have no clue as to the difference.
Best wishes
Bob

I think it's a great idea, but I don't know how one would know it was captive bred aside from someone's word...which means squat in the herp community. Not to mention, it would limit one or two vendors (who are also friends of alot of people in here) from vending their crap at the shows. Unless you want to take their word for it. It would probably piss them off knowing you restricted them from a busy show. Not a bad thing in my book, they're not friends of mine, nor would I buy anything from them.
If you need clarification of who, do a simple search on kingsnakes classified's.
You may have opened a can of worms, and personally, I'd like to see how it would play out.

I would support a cb only show to try as a trial. I do have reservations though. Some simple vendor rules would help overall though.
1 reptile per container only (that right there would eliminate the Jed Clampet, Uncle Cletus types from craming 60 rat snakes or cottonmouths in a small tote box)
The container needs to look clean. (If the container itself looks like its been reused 500 times, then guess what--the reptile has to go or be housed in a better container. Purchasing deli container in bulk is not that expensive.
Now if the snake craps in the container--no big deal. It's when there is 3 or more piles of crap in the container is the issue. let's you know either the snake is sick or most likely has been in the container waaaaaayyyyyy tooooooooo loooooooooonnnnnnnnnngggggg.
I could bitch about this all day and night, but I'll stop, because I need to go to sparkleberry swamp and catch 10,000 cottonmouths i can't properly care for. LOL.

Danny,
I would give it a try, there is no problem proving my Easterns are CB, especially with the possibility of having snows and xanthics on the table. I agree about the Box turtles and Black ratsnakes, too may unhealthy looking ones.
On a similiar topic, the $10.00 CB Ball Pythons that were selling in the non-venomous section were sick and pathetic. Skin draped along their sides and very dehydrated. How come they stayed on the table instead of being removed? A friend bought one against my judgement hoping to help it and it died three days later. A young boy came to my table and asked if I could sex the one he just bought. I told him to take it back to the vendor and get his money back, I could see it's spine raised up away from the muscle. They were marked as feeding and non-feeding CB Ball Pythons. CB my a$$. That needs policed to keep those vermin out of shows. Non-feeders = dead or sick.
