Hope everyone enjoyed a great 4th of July...keep the weekend rolling. While making the rounds yesterday it was time to feed our baby willardi that was born on May 28 at our facility. So far, this little rattler has a penchant for mourning geckos (Lepidodactylus lugubris) despite having some arizona native lizards to use for future scenting (thanks again to Luke Thirkhill!). IF ANYONE HAS A SOURCE FOR MOURNING GECKOS please let me know. I've tried all of the major wholesalers but coming up empty and I desperately need to get a colony of these parthenogenetic lizards established.
Anyway, when I put the gecko in the cage, the willardi immediately started using caudal luring. I've heard of klauberi using this technique but not willardi. Anyone else seen it? As the gecko got lured in, it did notice the snake and immediately turned its tail to the snake just as the snake struck. The tail fell off and convulsed for nearly three minutes which was neat giving the gecko time to escape (at which time I pulled the gecko from the cage - I must be getting soft in my older age). The rattler consumed the tail which was actually a decent sized meal. Just thought I'd share that observation and see if anyone else has noticed this with other species of cratalines.
Happy 4th,

Yes, I have seen caudal luring in willardi young. It seems to dissipate at they age.

Rob,
While I don't have access to Mourning Geckos, I do seem to see a lot of Mediterranean House Geckos.
Are you also trying those?
If so, you can contact me at Buzztail1@hotmail.com

House geckos would probably work well - similar to these tiny mourning geckos. If you have access to any please let me know. Thanks a bunch! Rob

There is a woman in the upper midwest who breeds thousands of these geckos.
That is where Dr. Bob originally got his stock.
I got mine from Dr. Bob, but do not have any to spare at this time.
Dr. Bob or Bryan Hudson should be able to tell you how to contact the gecko lady.
Best Regards John Z
