I recently came across a website advertised on kingsnake.com. it is called venomoid inc. I visited this website and, well...I have my opinion about why someone would want a venomous snake thats not venomous. I guess it may save the lives of those idiots who buy a venomous snake to look cool.
one thing that really got me was that when the fangs and venom glands are removed they replace the fangs with implantes which means the snake can no longer kill there prey. I guess thats fine if they will take f/t but if not than what? also the website states that venomoid snakes digest there prey the same as venomous snakes. I just do not belive that. Thats one of the primary uses for venom.
Maybe im wrong but i just think getting a venomous snake than making it venomoid is rediculous. I hate the idea and wish it would be banned. Well thats my opinion i would like to hear some of yours as well.
If you havent seen the website its at venomoid inc.

i have to make a correction. the fangs are not actually removed just the venom glands. still makes the snake incapable of killing its prey.

Cody, this is hot debate topic and probably beyond the scope of this friendly web site:-) But, I'd like to comment:
1) Ability to digest: yes, venom has digestive qualities but having kept several confiscated venomoids over the years, they have absolutely no problem digesting and assimilating prey.
2) Feeding live: I have yet to encounter a snake that could not be coaxed to take f/t. An exotic venomous snake (venomoid or fully hot) will never see the wild unless an irresponsible owner lets it free...that's dispictable.
When done under proper anasthesia, there is probably very little pain to the snake in the long run. Once again, I can only speak from the handful we've kept at our facility that came from confiscations. These are well adjusted, long lived and behave just like their counterparts. In an ideal world, all of our venomous would be fully hot but I know of some very reputable facilities who use venomoids and you will be hard pressed to see the difference. But, I've seen some real hatchet jobs that butcher these helpless animals. At least at Venomoid, Inc. its done by a licensed veterinarian under proper anasthesia - not condoning it as this really comes down to a position of personal philosophy and what the real motives are for someone to purchase a venomous herp. If its to get your jollies to show off to your friends, I'll just bite my tongue.

I have long maintained that if you are in to hots to show off, you should find a different hobby - before you kill yourself or make a newspaper splash.
The fact remains that fifty percent of the people on Earth are below the median intelligence. [For those who can't do math, half of the people on earth are of sub-average intelligence. At present count, I think that is about three BILLION.] Unfortunately, some of them keep hots.
I consider venomoids an unspeakable abomination. However, given the above incontrovertible fact, perhaps an occasional venomoid saves us yet another 'dagger in the heart.' Then again, probably not. I recant. The 'show offs' will scorn them and buy something that will (eventually) make (unintentional) headlines. The 'Igonorant' and the 'Stupid' will do something appropriate regardless.
The preceding may not be very Jeffersonian, but life experience has not contributed to an excess of optimism.

23bms...a little correction: median and average are not the same, thus, 50% of the population would not be above and below the "median" intelligence. For example, in the series of numbers 1, 3, 4, 12, 14..."4" is the median as it is the middle number in a data set; the average is 6.8.
However, the point you make is quite valid in that you are indicating that it is inevitable that some people with less than average intelligence will possess venomous reptiles.
Perhaps another consideration is that many people with above average intelligence lack an equivalent degree of common sense and therefore betray their intelligence.
Anyway, I'm somewhat off topic, so I'll stop.

"Perhaps another consideration is that many people with above average intelligence lack an equivalent degree of common sense and therefore betray their intelligence."
Exactly! One doesn't need to have a masters degree or phd, or be a rocket scientist to keep hots. It's more common sense and being responsible than anything else.
Reminds me of where I work. Every scientist has a masters or phd, yet none have enough common cents (I know, it's sense) to make a phone call.
There are variable forms of intelligence. Book smart vs street smart is a fitting term for some. I'm neither, but I spend alot of time staying at Holiday Inn Express. ; )
