Hi Gang,
We recently acquired a beautiful pair of mud snakes, Farancia abacura. I am desperately trying to find some sources for sirens and/or amphiumas as I have had zero luck with the tradtional wholesalers (glades, LLL, etc.). If anyone has any leads I would be most appreciative.

Rob, try these folks:

Also, sirens turn up quite often in crawfish nets. You might want to call these folks and see if they will save some for you:

Just dont be surprised if they do not know what a siren is though, you might have to call it an mud eel, or congo eel before they will know what you are talking about.
You might also want to try a live eel, which are available at Asian Markets. Although a fish and not an Amphibian, there is a chance that the snakes might eat them.

Rob, it might be worth a try to give them some big terrestrial salamanders like tigers or spotted. I have also heard of juveniles eating small frogs (Rana).

Rob,
I have always had success with rat pups.
Gotta be RAT pups though.
Remove the water source from the cage and put 3-4 LIVE Rat Pups in a shallow bowl.
Rinse all rodent smell off pups under running water before putting them in the bowl.
Leave them alone overnight in complete darkness. The snake should take them by morning.
This has always worked for me. I published a paper about this years ago in Reptiles and Amphibian Magazine, about 12 years ago or so if I recall.

Rob, I had a juvenile Farancia abacura in grad school and it would take larval Ambystoma all day long, so that is another source of food for those you have.

Sounds retarded but in the mean time force feed them raw hot dogs until you find a resource. soak the dogs in fish oil for better results and they won't throw them up. Done it a million times..

That's one for the books. I'll use that as my back up if all else fails...hopefully I will get these guys onto rat pups after a few amphibian feedings. Thanks
