hello, My name is Luis Castaneda. I have been around venomous snakes for about a year now. I have helped my friend, Jahon, catch and raise a vareity of rattle snakes, we live in California so thats all we can legaly get our hands on. We have delt from nenates, to full on adults, good and bad temperment. Thats just a little backround to let you guys know i do have a bit of experiance. Ok, i am going to get my firls venomous snake within a few weeks, bit im not sure what to get, i really like crotalus rubers and crotalus cerastes. I'm not sure what to get because i really like the ruber but it gets kind of big. i've delt with them but with my much more experianced friend. The ceractes grow to a good small size but i've herd they are pretty tempermental. I would like your guy's opinion in my dilema or if u think i should get a different species for my first venoous snake. Thank you guys.

First, you might want to change that picture - wearing sandals and working with venomous reptiles in the field is a big no-no...a big part of working with venomous snakes is doing it the right way and foot attire will go along way towards preventing a possible disaster (and I'm sure we're all guilty from time to time in throwing on some sandals to tend to a few housekeeping chores but you open yourself up when you put a pic out there in front of the public).
As far as what type of rattlesnake to get, keep the one that you are most interested in. I personally love Cerastes - just a really neat little rattler. Rubers typically are very mild mannered and a good medium sized rattler to keep...you can't go wrong with either one.
