Yesterday, as I was feeding my 2 yr old Ball, she did the weirdist thing, she actually stopped eating in mid mouse....Has anyone heard of this?? She is in good health, right enclosure requirements, has always been a good eater, and has never given me any issues. She has always eaten f/t, and thats what she was eating yesterday. I gently pulled on the "half mouse" w/forceps, to try and restart her feed reflex, and after doing so twice, she finally finished her meal. She takes two f/t a week, and the food size, quality nothing has changed. She also finished shedding two days ago, and did not have anything stuck in her mouth or throat.

Mike, several things come to mind. One, is that you tried to feed the snake the day after it shed. Snakes use water resources from there bodies to secrete a thin layer of liquid between the old and new skin that helps them shed and helps the layers seperate.
This could partially dehydrate the snake and pull water from the silava and digestive tract, making it a bit dry, and possibly making swallowing a bit of a problem.
Also, why are you feeding a ball python 2 mice a week ? That sounds excessive to me. Perhaps the snake was just not hungry, because it is being overfed ?
Hope this helps.
Best Regards
John Z

John, thanks for the info. The idea that she could be a little dehydrated makes the most sense. She is the only one who eats on a 7 day rotation, and thats 2 large fuzzies. My others are on a 14 day schedule, and all are very active, especially the snake in question. She is always active in the evening, and that's why i was a little concerned. She ate yesterday(01/21), and had finished shedding on Friday. I may have jumped the gun and fed her too soon, I honestly did'nt think it was too soon. The water theory makes sense, because now that I think about it, I hadnt seen her there in a few days.

Thanks John for the info. I have never had that problem with my snakes eating, but I have never even thought about that being a problem. I will definitely remember that. Thanks for the info.
