Jeremy,
Why do you want to know the sex of your snakes? If you want to breed them, probing is considerably more accurate. Probes are not that expensive, and you can get a new set in a matter of days. If you just want to know for the purpose of naming them, just guess. You have a 50% chance of being right :-)

Try this: http://www.exoticpetvet.com/breeds/ballpython1.htm
"Sexing can easily be accomplished by probing. Juveniles may be sexed also by manual eversion of the hemipenes. Either technique should be performed by an experienced person or reptile veterinarian, since poor technique may result in injury. Generally, females probe a distance of 2-4 subcaudal scales and males 8 or more. Males have larger cloacal spurs and thicker tails than females."

"i usually probe them but i have misplaced my probe set."
Try this, take a metal paperclip, and straighten it out, then bend it in half at the middle point. Bend it until the two sides are side by side. Use pliars to squish the "U" end until it is flattened as much as possible.
This will create a small metal probe with a safe, rounded end. Then use it to probe the snakes.
I have been making throwaway probes like that for over 40 years, and they work quite well.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards

If you bought them from a pet store, retailer, importer,or wholesaler, they are probably males. I bought 12 a couple years ago...... all males! then I started checking pet shops,All males!! It seems breeders and some wholesalers know females are worth more money, so they hold them back and sell off all the males for pet python people.
