I was just having a bit of fun. This guy is a normal southern copperhead. He is one of the animals on display at the Cape Fear Serpentarium. He caught my attention the other day, while he was laying just outside of a log, with a rattle next to his head. Upon closer inspection, I could see one of the canebrakes just out of sight, under the log. The copper was laying on his tail, and it looked as is the rattle belonged to the copper. Thought it was a fun pic, but it would be much more if there were no such thing as photo-editing.
And JP, I'll see what I can do. ;) Sure you don't want a baby O. Hannah?

One more thing, I know the photograph is awful. I am working on that. The lighting in there doesn't make it any easier on me, though. As for the animal being sickly and underfed, he seems fine to me. If you think there is a problem, take it up with Dean. This isn't my animal.
And, I have not been on this forum very long, but it seems to me that some people need to take a chill pill. This was a joke. I wasn't 'selling' anything. The fact that the two animals were laying in such a way that only the copper and rattle were visible amused me. I thought that someone else might enjoy this.

Nicole, getting a good photo of a snake in a cage can be a real challenge.
However, there are some techniques that can help.
I would suggest you visit VenomCenter.org.
Over there, we have a excellent photo forum, and many people who can help you with getting better photos of snakes in cages.
We also have a monthly photo contest with some great prizes. It is a fun contest, with the goal being making everyone better photographers, in a non-criticizing / constructive enviornment
A lot of the members here are also members of that site, and that site has the advantage of being able to post photos on the forum, instead of just links.
Hope to see you there sometime.
Best Regards
John Z

At last! A cotton-headed rattle-moccassin! I've been hearing about these things all my life, and now there's photographic proof! Hyla crucifer! (that's "halleluia' in herp-ese).

Thanks for the suggestion, John. I just registered, and I'll definitely check it out. I swear all my pictures aren't as bad as that copper. I never was one for photography, until I got into herpetology, so I'm still learning. I do appreciate the guidance. :)
And JP, this is off topic, but a little update on the book - still editing! The Japanese people that are doing the proofs probably hate Dean with a passion for all the last minute corrections. I think we're just about there, though, and the book is certainly worth the wait. I was reading over the bushmaster bite cases, and it's chilling. I won't be surprised if I dream about being bitten tonight. As for the kings, provided the mating actually took, and all the babies survive, would you really want one once we get them feeding?
FSB, it truly is a miracle. Took years of work... or maybe just one lucky moment, where the planets aligned to offer this kodak moment. ;)

Ah, the fabled Cerberus of copperheads! What a glorious day to be a herper!
Aren't they just the most photogenic little fellows?
