either this is a species I haven't heard of before or I'm mistaken but that looks a lot like a boomslang to me..... anyone else agree? A good sized one at that.

I appears to be a Thrasops jacksonii...a completely different genus than Dispholidus typus. But I don't know too much about this species.

I found a interesting webpage that features a number of the African rear-fanged and tree snakes.
Many of these poorly known, big eyed, short faced, snakes resemble a boomslang.

That ad has been posted occasionally for a while now. It caught my eye, too. I found a photo of one that looks really attractive at

and more information about keeping it, also.

I think I would be more cautious about handling a rear fanged snake that large, even though it is supposed to be harmless to humans.
Seem to remember that they once said that about Boomslangs ???

Definitely John! Even if Thrasops is completely harmless, they look WAY too similar to Dispholidus not to give someone pause. They're definitely not as hot as Dispholidus, but I don't think it'd be worth taking the risk of complacently freehandling them.
As an aside, I wonder if they smell like licorice or celery like boomslangs do?
