To keep or not to keep? That is the question.

I currently live in a state where keeping venomous animals is legal without a permit, but life may force me to move to a state that prohibits the private ownership of venomous animals without a permit. If I move I would be moving to either MA or CT. And from what I've heard it's damn near impossible to attain permits in those states, and the fact that a lady got mauled by a chimp in CT doesnt help. I have been keeping venomous for more than 10 years now and have worked extremely hard to develop my collection and I dont want to have to part with it. Does anyone know the proper aveunes to take to try uptain a venomous permit. And what should I do in the event that I cant get a permit? I've worked to hard and to long to build my collection, and there is still so much more I want. I dont want to keep the animals illegaly because I dont want to be one of those people giving the government ammo to use against us to ban these reptiles, but I dont want to give up my animals. Doing that would be like losing a vital organ. What do I do?

I can understand why you haven't filled in your profile - given your issue.
There are several things you can do that are still within the law.
Keep your collection in a neighboring state which does allow venomous keeping (I personally don't know which ones these are).
There are several people here who keep their exotics in neighboring states but actually live in Georgia. If you go this route, be very careful not to fall prey to temptation and bring anything home - even just for the night - it will catch up with you.
You can have a friend take care of your collection for you if your move is a temporary situation. I transferred to California in 2003 and a friend kept my Southern Copperhead for me for 3 years! Some friends are great like that and I have been blessed with several of that caliber.
As has been noted, we do not recommend or condone illegal activity on this site and so the apparent option of take them with you and don't tell anyone is not anything I agree with. That avenue will end badly - one way or another.
I know how hard it is. A military career forced that decision on me more often than I would have liked. Each time, I wound up giving away my snakes to good homes rather than selling them. Sure, I could have made some money but this way I know I did what was right for the snakes.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

I'm not sure what you guys mean by filling out my profile. I filled out everything that was required for membership. As for the first comment I dont want to do anything illegal thats why I'm here asking questions. And if it was so simply just to not move I wouldnt have posted in the first place. Thats why I used the word "FORCED"! I'm looking for someone to give me helpful info, not a critic. Like I said I dont want to do anything illegal thats why I came here. I thought perhaps some others have been through what I may be forced to go through.
As for the second comment I wish I knew someone that could hold my venomous collection, but its pretty big and all my herp friends arent really into venomous so thats probably out. But a good idea nonetheless. I may no someone, but that person is pretty far so it may not work. I was thinking of perhaps starting a Serpentarium and getting permits that way, but I know that round is a long one.
Thanks for the comments if anyone has anymore "helpful info" please do share. Especially if you know anything about how or who to contact to try to attain a permit.
Again I'm not trying to do anything illegal. I guess if I'm forced to move I'll have to give them up. I have a family to think about and the price I'd have to pay if caught keeping these animals illegal is way too high.

Filling out your profile means real name real address real state .Then tell something about your self.Chances are if you keep hots you will know some of the people on this forum. We are not a large community .If your collection is as large as you state you will be known by someone. This shows us you are not a 13 year old kid just posing questions for fun,we get that often.I hope you do get a permit it will be the winning of a small war for all of us.As far as the legal part re read your first post you implied if you should keep them anyway.I do hope it works out well for you and your snakes.I hate to see a man separated from his passion.

Fair enough. I have completed my profile showing that I have nothing to hide. Maybe my collection isnt as big as some others put its a good amount to me. But I dont really talk about it much. Like I said most of the people that I'd consider friends are not into venomous. I keep them for myself pretty much. Hope that clears things up. Thanks for the support.
Anyone with info on how to approach getting a permit?

The only thing I would say is try fish and wild life you may also need a municipal permit from the city.

Yeah I'm in the process of trying to get ahold of someone now. I was talking to a buddy of mine that work for Mass Fish and Game during the spring that thinks he can put me in the right direction. Lets hope so. I apoligize if I was a little brash before, I guess the thought of losing what is so dear to me got the better of me. If I was forced to move it wouldnt be for another year, but I figure I'd start the process now just in case, but I'm trying very hard to make a way to stay where I am.
