PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police say a high school student is facing charges for using a biology class snake as a jump rope.
Police say the incident happened Monday at Taylor Allderdice High School, according to KDKA-TV.
Police aren't identifying the 17-year-old suspect because he's being charged in juvenile court. The boy will be charged with theft and cruelty to animals.
The animal survived the ordeal and was being examined by a veterinarian.
Pittsburgh Public School officials on Tuesday were not immediately able to say what kind of snake it was.

I totally agree with you. This type of behavior is repulsive and the kid should face criminal charges. I’m finally glad to see some justice for herp's, now all that’s needed to be done is to get rid of the round ups.

Too much Jackass and WildBoyz. When will people learn that there are consequences to their actions?

Josh, you sure nailed it when you stated: "Too much Jackass and WildBoyz." Those clowns have influneced a generation of teens to repeat the stupic acts they have seen on TV. Not that all teens are like that by any means, but there will always be a few nitwhits who are just looking for something to get them some attention. And those shows provided them with a easy way to accomplish that. Monkey See, Monkey Do !

I have never watched a episode of Wild Boyz that showed them hurting animals. I have seen them get hurt but a animal, like a croc biting someone or a snake biting someone, but never the other way around.
That stunt sounds like pure meaness, but not something he saw on TV.

Wild Boyz are hurting reptiles indirectly by using them as play objects for TV. Showing snakes strikeing repeatedly at things, and crocodiles biting just serves to reinforce people's negative views of those animals. And what purpose does freehandling king cobras and kissing them on the head serve ?
As far as direct damage to reptiles, well, what about the assortment of some 300 snakes that were shipped to California so that some basketball nitwhit selling tennis shoes could jump over a swimming pool of water filled with snakes for a commercial ? The behind the scenes takes showed snakes going out of the pool and plopping on the concrete below, only to be picked up and placed back in the pool. Was that 4 foot fall to concrete good for those snakes ?
Do you think all of those snakes were shipped back to SC to be released back where they were captured, after they were done playing with them ?
Do you think they found good homes for all of those snakes in California, after they were done playing with them?
I can not see hundreds of California folks lining up for a pet water snake ?
But even it all of them went to pet shops, was it right to remove that many snakes from the habitat in SC ?
Just because you do not see animal abuse on the TV shows, and just because they say they do not hurt the animals, does not mean that is the case. Just the stress the animal are put through for them to film them is damaging in a way.
Send me all of the outtakes from those shows, all the stuff on the editors floor that did not make the TV show, and lets just see how nicely the animals are really treated ? Anyone in Wild Boyz willing to send me all of that footage for review ???
Best Regards
John Z
