Can anyone tell me how to find out about the laws on keeping venomous snakes in Missouri I cannot find any information on obtaining a permit. Does anyone know of a website that will tell me about obtaining a permit.
Thanks, Travis.

Boy you might want to double check that. Steve Brown is the President of the St. Louis Herp Society and I know he possesses a state permit to possess venomous species (native and non native).

we spoke with fish and game and also the department of agriculture and both of them say there is no permit needed for venomous reptiles that are not native to the state of MO..also you can try calling some of the main venomous dealers that can tell you more about what you need to know

Ok thank you. The website says that both native and exotic venomous snakes must be registered with local police.

The laws regarding venomous in Missouri can and do vary from registering with your local law enforcement to being totally illegal. The state statue section 578.023 requires that you register any deadly or dangerous reptile, venomous reptiles and large constrictors exceeding 10 feet in length with your local law enforcement. Several counties and a lot of the cities in Missouri ban the private ownership of venomous reptiles. The Missouri Dept. of Conservation only regulates the wildlife that are indigenous to the state. You can contact your local animal control office and request a copy of the ordinance covering exotics or reptiles.
