i have had many people tell me he has been known to sell infected snakes, my snakes that i got from him died two weeks after i got them from him, then it was downhill after that, some of my other snakes started dying that i have had for years, what a coincidence, also they all died the same way the rhino did, with their mouth open and trashing around, but thats not all, he had sent me many imperfect animals, like malysian kraits with missing eyes, along with all of that the rhino viper was infested with thousans of mites, which i got a hold of before it got out of control, long story short, i will never buy from him again, arin

When you deal with folks who import and wholesale a lot of reptiles, there is always the chance that animals infected with a virus will come in to them, and then be shipped out to purchasers without any form of quarantine. That is the risk you take in dealing with a big wholesaler or importer. You might get animals that you would never ever have the chance to get, but there is always the risk of getting sick animals that have just come into the country.
Some importers quarantine the newly imported animals, and make sure they are healthy and feeding before they sell them, but others who are more intereseed in making money than the welfare of the animals turn them over very quickly.
I have actually watched dealers at reptile shows open boxes of animals that had just been imported from South America, and put them in deli cupps to sell at the show the next day.
It is far better to deal with folks who have been captive breeding animals here in the states, if at all possible.
It is a reptile keepers responsibility to Always quarantine any new animal that they purchase. That way, any disease the animal might have does not spread to the rest of the established collection. And that applies to animals you get from a importer, or at a reptile show, or from a individual breeder.
Here at the SHHS, we do at times allow folks to post about bad experiences with reptile dealers. And that has been done here in the first part of this post.
However, I do not want this thread to become a bashing contest where anyone who has been unhappy with Ray Hunter starts to posts. The site Fauna Classifieds is, or was, the place for that. They are set up to deal with it to some extent, although lately, they seem to have become a bit of a lynch mob over there.
Arin, if you want to post a warning that you were scammed or shipped bad animals, you can do that in the Classifieds here. However, I do not want to have to start taking down this thread if a bunch of folks start jumping in.
This thread needs to end here, as it is not the place of the SHHS to become judge and jury about sick animals that were shipped to you.
Best Regards
John Z

It might be a good idea to keep new animals seperate from your main collection for a time to determine if it has any disease that may be easily transmissible to the rest of your collection via observation and lab work. It may be difficult and expensive at times, but in the long run it can preserve the health of your collection and prevent the loss of specimens.

Quarantine, yes. Also, have you spoken to Ray directly? This step would come before a public bashing.

I understand you are probably mad about your snakes but getting an autopsy done on your own snakes would have probably been a good idea. Also, how long were these snakes quarantined from your existing collection? It sounds like they weren't quarantined at all to me. It's a very unfortunate situation but calling someone out publicly like that, based on hearsay from others, and saying they sell snakes with OPMV isn't right either. If something like that happened to me I would have immediately called the person I got them from to try and resolve things or just to let them know what happened. I'm sure it will be a learning experience for you though; albeit a bad one. Good luck with breeding your capes. -Jamie

i did not want this thread to turn into a bashing contest, this was basically a warning, i had quarntined my animals that i got from him for three months, i guess i should have done it longer, anyway lesson learned, the only reason i brought up this as a thread is because time cole had told me he had just shiped infected animals to a zoo, and no i am not assuming, like i said they were tested, so anyway thanks to all, thanks jamie i will try to get my nivea to give me some babies, this thread is over, arin

This thread hads ended! No more posts period. There is no evidence to back your claim up Arin. Ray is not here to defend himself, end of story. Cro called for the end a few posts back, where it should have stopped. Next one that posts on this thread gets black listed, GOT IT.
