Hopefully an interesting observation for all...
I don't keep or hunt, I generally enjoy snakes vicariously through the forum, but have had a number of happenstance sightings so far this year...
In my yard in Wake Forest, NC
1 worm snake (dead in driveway from some sort of injury) and 1 Eastern garter (by my wife and son) sunning itself in our Iris.
In my neighborhood
1 small copperhead staying warm in the gutter at dusk
Golf Course in Raleigh
1 black snake crossing the fairway

Mostly Black Rat Snakes, lots of 'em. I found one little Black Racer. I haven't even seen any venomous snakes this year, either live or as DOR's. Most of what I've even seen on the road has been Black Rats. I saw one road-killed Eastern King, but that's it. A church member accidentally killed a little Scarlet Snake while digging bulbs in the garden, and brought it to me to identify. She was pretty upset about it, but the snake was under some dirt and she didn't know it when she dug down to get at the bulbs. That's the first one I've ever seen around here. In spite of all the rain we've had, I've only seen one frog, a tree frog, and I haven't seen or heard a toad in over six years. We don't have any permanent water within eight miles, though. I'd love to find some Water snakes myself, but the area is just not conducive to them.

Rains haven't started here in so. Arizona yet and I've only found a WDB, a Mohave, a Checkered Garter and a pair of twin spotted spiny lizards. That will change as soon as the Monsoons start.

14 Eastern Worm Snakes,4 Northern ring-necked snakes, 2 northern black racers, 1 northern brown snake, 1 eastern rat snake, 3 common 5-linned skinks, 3fence lizards, and 1 little brown skink. Hoping for at least 1 eastern, mole or scarlet kingsnake and a northern copperhead. I would love to at least see a wild timber rattlesnake.

I'm finding a ton of black rats. Besides that garter snakes and ribbon snakes, a couple of green snakes, a few blotched watersnakes, a diamondback watersnake, a big prairie king, a black racer (which is not super common in Oklahoma), and then the little ones such as ringnecks and earthsnakes.
I've found tons of green anoles, fence lizards, and skinks.
Still looking for that copperhead or timber rattlesnake...
Happy Herping and Safe Keeping,
Jon Short
