Sadly, the snake died today.
We did not thrash around, and wasn't really like the other snakes.
He just swelled up.. No other symptoms.
I've cleaned, cleaned , and cleaned some more in my main collection.
As soon as the symptoms were noticed, this snake was removed from my snake room.
Everything I use has been disinfected.
Thanks for your help,
Jon Short

Jon, you are doing the right thing in cleaning all of your cages and equipment.
Hopefully, the rest of the collection will be ok.
Whole zoo collections have been wiped out in similar fashion.
I know it is hard to do folks, but you have to keep new animals separated from the rest of the collection when they first come in.
And I know this is difficult too, but if you go to a reptile show, and you buy 10 different animals, from several vendors, and then you put all 10 deli cups into one cooler to take them home, well, if only one of those animals is sick, you have just exposed the rest of them to that disease !
Rule number one: Try to buy captive born animals if at all possible.
Rule number two: Keep the new animals separate from each other.
Rule number three: Keep new animals quarantined from the rest of your collection.
Rule number four: Always assume that any new animal might be sick, or might have parasites that need treating.
Rule number five: Always use strict sanitation rules when servicing cages. Do not cross contaminate animals by using one snake hook or transfer can, from one animal to the next.
Rule number six: Some reptile dealers are great honest folks, and some are scum buckets who do not care for the animals, and are only in it for the $$.
Find out the difference between them before you buy.
Well, I could go on making up rules all night long, as I have been in this business a long time, but 6 rules is good enough for tonight, and I am tired. Perhaps others will add rules # 7 to 100 !
Best Regards
John Z
