I have seen/handled many "tame" Savannah monitors. They are more likely to be accepting of handling than most Nile's. There are of course exceptions, but most Nile's I have dealt with are less accepting of being handled. Not necessarily biting, but irritated at the handler.

If you want a good large tame lizard Tim.Try a plated lizard they are very good pets better than monitors for sure. They tolerate handleing very well.

Untill recently I would tell you that Savannah monitors are very easy to handle, and Niles are not. I recently obtained a couple young Savannahs which are quite nippy, not uncommon for many young speciments of any species. I believe that they will calm down with continuous handling. Niles, in my experinces have a harder time agreeing with this. Either way, good idea to have a small amount of cheep vodka nearby while hadnling. A drop or two in the mouth will generally give them a change of heart or appetite. Have fun and have a great day. dang
