Hello.
If you cross two different venomous snakes (a hybrid), what kind of changes can happen with the venom?, I have seen several very crazy crossings, others not as much, as for example one between Puff adder X Rhino viper! what would happen with the venom? , what kind of antivenom you need in this case? , etc...
Thanks guys.

We are looking at some rattlesnake hybrids now also. Seemingly, they are sporting traits of both venom-wise. To what degree and how this may apply to medical discovery is still on the lab bench.
As for a puff/rhino mix (can't see why anyone would want to do such a horrible thing), in an emergency the SAIMR covers both snakes and should be used to treat. Now, what type of synergistic effects the two venoms would have on the victim is something to be looked at. Either way....you'd be in for a really bad day!

Hello guys, thanks to answer. I participate in a forum from Spain, now we are talking about it. Another participant said that would not pass anything to the venom, I know he is worng, everybody think the same "he is wrong", but he is very obstinate and deaf. I am looking for something with foundations to be able to debate its answer, I'm surfing in internet but I cant find any information about it. Thanks again guys!.

A clear-cut, and specific answer to your question does not exist. It would be very difficult to prove either side of your debate, as there is much that is still being looked at.
Good question, just not any real "proven" statements that can be given as of yet. Dr. Fry, do keep us updated as to what you find out. A very interesting topic.
Take Care,
-John Mendrola.

Question for BGF or Aquaherp or anyone familiar with the lab process necessary to do this type of analysis, what is the specific test (and this might apply to the Bitis Parviocula question too) and how much does it actually cost to just do it?

Hmmmmm....good question. It depends on what you are looking for and how far you want to go with purification. Follow this link and it will show you some of the ways we do it at our place. None of which are cheap by my own standards, but not bad in the scheme or a research lab. In other words.....as long as I aint paying! :)

$1,000.00 in lab costs does not sound all that bad, if a venom goes through those steps that you listed.
