I don't know if it's posted just for laughs, but the ad about extirpating a den and trying to sell all the animals doesnt sound very funny to me.

I actually emailed him to see what species they were and if he would tell me. I was curious since he did not know what to charge for them, what origin/species they were. Catch my drift???

Judging by the phone number he lives in the DFW area.
Wonder if he has the required TP&W Commercial Non-game permit to sell them?

dissapointment indeed, sounds fishy but I am curious too. Of course the poster's profile is not filled out so I dunno what part of the country the snakes are from to get an idea of the species, I hope he didnt destroy a den, especially timbers.

Unfortunatly not enough people have respect for their local wildlife. I live in NC and cannot legally own most native venomous, Even if captive bred. The bad thing is that people call and tell me that they have snakes in their yard and i can't come get them so they kill them. I don't know if i capture and release if i would still get in trouble. What happens if i move it and someone is bit? It's an unfortunate situation.

Steven you can own lots of venomous in NC, you just cannot own them in certain citys like charlotte gastonia etc.But for the most part alot of the state is pretty open unless recent laws have changed. And of course state protected animals (EDBs pigmys) are permit only.

I talked to the fellow with the ad in the classifieds.
He is near Fort Worth, Texas and runs a shop, and apparently has a lot of rattlesnakes all over his property, as there is a den site across the road from him.
He does not want to hurt the snakes, but is a bit frustrated with them being all over the place, and presenting a danger.
We are working on seeing if we can get some of them into a antivenom production facility where they will help make AV, and help save lives.
Best Regards

John,
Let me know if I can help with this. I have the experience, tools, permits, and I live in Austin TX.
I also have a working relationship with two of the venom labs.

Yeah i know i can own hots but i hear about people killing timber and things all the time. I don't know if i can go get them and release them in my woods since they are protected. Also my 10 acres butts up against a housing development with alot of children so that kind of worries me as well. I know the state is trying to protect the snakes and that is why they have the laws, but it sometimes ties the hands of people who would also like to protect the snakes. Is catch and release considered harrasment of a protected species? If so is there a way to get permited to do it?
