Great trip to Texas

Now that I'm finally getting caught up from my trip to Texas and the 22 hour drive on my own (there's no doubt that Texas is a country unto its own!), I just wanted to say I had a great time finally meeting Doug Hotle in person (as well as Diane Matthews-Longenecker). We met up at Tim Cole's place and it was great seeing him and his better half and we all enjoyed a good time; albeit not as long as I would have liked. Tim has a great place. We have accumulated quite a surplus of rattlesnakes and other odd and end venomous and Doug was nice enough to take 'em all...not sure what to do with all of my empty cages:-)! I spent the previous day with Earl Turner and had a great time with him and his wonderful wife Anna...great folks and great hospitality. Earl has quite a collection. We did a little trading and now I have a gorgeous and rare banded king cobra (pics on my facebook page) along with a few other goodies including the nastiest albino atrox I have ever seen - but it is super impressive. On my way home I stopped by Fossil Rim Wildlife Center - that was a great treat to see many African Ungulates up close and personal. The Hill Country was beautiful and I look forward to getting down there when I can actually do some herping. Thanks guys!!

Thanks Rob.
We had a wonderful time as well. The snakes are doing well. I most especially love the little leucostoma...evil evil evil!!! But adorable!
We did lose a single atrox out of the lot that Tim Cole picked up from the "I done caught me a mess of rattlers" guy. Some were critically dehydrated and I am guessing that this one was already in renal failure. The rest are nice and warm- we pushed fluids into about half as we unloaded them. There were 36 total. I donated 4 to Tim...LOL...or let's say I accidentally left behind a bucket of 4 in the snake building when we packed up. My hat off to Tim for taking his own personal time to rescue these animals!
The big cottonmouths, including that one deer-eating monster you gave me, are already cooled down in the hibernacula. They will only get about 4 weeks as the others in there were already down for a while.
Again, I appreciate everything and next time I get up your way, we'll be by! As well, the offer is always standing for you to come back, see the center and do some Texas-style herping with us! Diane says "hi".

Randal,
I believe Earl mentioned your name! LOL
It was a great but too short a visit with Rob, Doug, and Diane.
Transmission fluid does wonders to the atrox belly coloration as we discovered from the rescued atrox!
Rob and Doug, you need to come back to see Kerry's King!
