Anybody have a favorite gps that they would recomend. I have been thinking about getting one so I can keep track of all the snake hot spots that I find but don't know which brand or model to go with.

I recently got a TOMTOM XL 325 SE for 59.99 at WalMart. I cannot imagine to many close for that price.

Garmin GPSMap 60csx - the only caveat is that you also need a mapset to load onto it if you want to get full functionality. That will add about 100 bucks to the cost (if you don't know how to download torrents).
I like the city navigator mapset, but matt king prefers the topo set. I found the city navigator to be plenty and seems more up to date. The topo has the advantage that water features are more accurate. The roads are more accurate on the city navigator.
I actually have both installed in mine but keep the topo turned off until I need it.

Chad,
"if you don't know how to download torrents"
Do you have a link that has some of the optional TomTom maps, like for Mexico, Europe, etc ?
Best Regards

You may want to check out the Garmin Nuvi 500. I'm new to the technology, so I have nothing with which to compare, but am very happy with its "crossover" capabilities. It has done very well on road trips plus it has topo capabilities. I use it when I'm trail cruising and it has been very effective. There are web sites from which you can download free 24k topo maps. It is water resistant and has an internal slot for a micro SD card, so there's plenty of memory for extra maps. It has a touch screen without a lock button so if you are a die-hard hiker your settings are going to change.
I am also a Mac person and Garmin software is compatible with both PCs and Macs. They have some really neat software including RoadTrip and BaseCamp.
