Scale Problem in Florida Cottonmouths?

Hey guys, I haven't posted in quite some time but I had a quick question. I have two female Florida Cottonmouths that are siblings and they both have something going on that causes their scales to flake off. The number of scales varies, but during each cage cleaning I am sure to find anywhere from a couple to dozens of loose scales laying on the substrate. It doesn't seem to affect them in any way as they are both still very good eaters and otherwise seem healthy. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this before.
Thanks,
Dylan

What substrate are they kept on? What is the humidity and water availability in the cage? Just some background information, that may assist in answering.

Also, if you could explain a bit more precisely what you mean, that would probably help.
Are you finding bits of skin, in the shape of scales, similar to the thickness of a shed skin?
Do you see missing bits of skin on the snakes where these came from, and if so, what do those areas look like.
Snake "scales" are not like fish scales. They are really just sort of a texture to the skin and not individual things that could fall off.

Many years ago I thought I was having the same weird problem but it turned out to be parts of their shed that separated from the whole shed. That was my experience which sounds similar to yours. Maybe this will help.

Hmm perhaps it is a case similar to Rob's. Now that I think about it, although the things I am finding appear to be normal scales, the severity of the condition did seem to increase drastically right before the one snake shed. Also, there are no "holes" so to speak in the scale patterns of the snakes. I still find it odd though that there will be a few scales in the cage at seemingly random times throughout their shed cycles. Perhaps they are pieces of shed that all fall off individually prior to a shedding and then I miss them when cleaning the cage only to find them a week later. I will keep an eye on it and see if I can notice any further trends. Thanks for the help!
