Go to the hospital but before you do that please fill in your profile.I know that it is painful with the bite and all but it only takes a short while. As the venom spreads the pain will increase but filling in your profile and giving the reason you think you got bit may help the answers come quicker.

Do NOT cut, suck, or pressure bandage the site. Get to the hospital immediately and call ahead if able, to forewarn the ER.
Please fill in your profile, if you plan to ask questions and participate in this website. Thank you.

Moccasin's have more toxic venom, however both snakes have the potential to cause bad bites. Avoid being bitten. Your profile says you have or are currently keeping these species. Sounds like you are not educated/experienced enough to be taking on venomous snakes yet. You should reconsider keeping hots, until you are more educated about them. I am not attempting to insult you in any way. Just trying to prevent an unfortunate accident, which may cost you monetarily as well as physically. Take care. Be careful. I learn as much as you can BEFORE attempting to work with venomous snakes. Consequences can be very bad.

I encourage you to find an experienced venomous keeper near you and work with them. Learn as much as you can, ask a lot of questions, and do not get in a hurry. Keep and work with non-venomous in the mean time to learn proper husbandry. Good luck. Be safe!

I misread your question. I thought you asked "whats the worst that can happen from a bite from a copperhead or water moccasin".Like Charles said, the cottonmouths venom is generally more potent but both can deliver bad bites.Take care, Marty

I hate the term "water-moccasin",
as it is very vague..
Are you reffering to a Cottonmouth (Agkistrodon)
or a common water snake (Nerodia) ?
There IS a huge difference..
And I certainly agree.. Hold off on
keeping anything venomous until you
are a bit more educated.. Finding a
mentor in your area, and working with
someone for a while, would be the way
to go..
Take Care,
-John Mendrola.
