Hello, I am currently doing my homework on my next acquisition which I am thinking will be a king. I was wondering if you guys could explain the differences between the different types of kings or if you could point me in the right direction on where I could find some more info on them.
Don't worry, this is not something I am rushing into, it may be a year or two down the road before I actually get one. I am just looking into it right now. If you don't think I should have one then don't respond in this thread. I will make sue that I can properly care for it myself so please spare the lectures.
Thank you.

Chris, check out the "King Cobra Sanctuary" by Luke Yeomans, on Facebook.
He has a huge amount of information that will be useful to you.

I am still having trouble finding info on the different locales of them. I know of the Indonesian and the Chinese banded but if I remember correctly there is a paper out classifying 6 different subspecies. Does anyone know where I can find this? This is more out of curiosity than anything but I would like to know as much as I can on them.
Thanks.

If you have taxonomic questions regarding cobras, I would recommend Wolfgang as a primary information source:

"there is a paper out classifying 6 different subspecies"
Subspecies do not exist in Kings,or in any species arguably. However, the locales of Kings include indo, thai, malaysian, and chinese banded. I might be missing 1 or 2,but these locales produce different colors and patterns in Kings, all beautiful.
Finding them available now a days isn't as easy as it used to be,especially an established one. Keep looking on these classifieds or kingsnake.com and youll find one eventually.
Hope this helps

I know of a few that re available and in my price range but I am not quite ready yet. I want to get some hands on experience with them first then build a nice large display quality cage for it. Do you think an 8x3x4' enclosure would do or should I go for broke and do a larger one?

We keep our King Cobra in an exhibit that is 15 feet wide x 3 feet deep x 4 feet high and that snake uses every square inch. I say go as big as you possibly can. With that being said, I know many folks who keep their kinds in 4-6 foot cages but that just seems too small when you consider their activity levels....but these same kings all look very healthy so I would say just go as big as your budget will allow.

Okay, I will try and make some room for a 12 footer if I can. I should be able to if I rearrange my furniture a bit.
