I've thought about this for several days now, and I must admit that I have absolutely no idea. As far back as my memory goes I can remember catching toads, plethodontid salamanders, and anoles. My guess is that MOST people have a fascination with reptiles from a very early age and my parents simply never showed a negative reaction to them. In fact they were always interested in whatever I brought to them (or at least they faked it pretty well). So I guess if there were more parents like mine there would be more people on this site.

Funny thing for me is Josh, my parents hated and feared snakes. My love of reptiles was born out of interest in all livings things first and foremost, but then out of rebellion against my parents. Since they disliked them so much, I wanted to learn more about them. Still to this day they cringe and swear when I bring up snakes. Makes me laugh every time.

I can't tell you how many times my mom helped me chase one of my critters -I dare not use the term pets ;) - around the house. I remember one incident that involved a crawfish coming down the stairs early in the morning when she was enjoying her coffee. In another incident she stuck her hand down into the garbage disposal to rescue an Argiope aurantia that had escaped from a milk jug.
Well, I guess we are all partially who we are because of our parents whether they loved and supporetd us or named us Sue (Johnny Cash reference for those of you who missed it)
