In the event the state you resided in banned venomous reptiles, what would happen? Would you be expected to surrender your animals to the proper authorities? Considering most keepers are more properly trained/equipped to deal with these animals than many state agencies, who would those "proper" authorities be? And what about the animals? I imagine most, if not all, would be euthanized?

I imagine it would be thrown on Department of Natural Resources and Animal Control, but I do not want to find out. I live in SC, which is hot friendly currently. I really do not want to see legislation unless it involves some sort of permit system. If a permit system would protect my right to keep, I would surely welcome it over an outright ban. Give me a test, inspect my room, and charge me a reasonable fee if you will. I paid for a concealed weapon permit, I think a venomous snake permit would not be asking too much. Given a choice though, I am happy how things are now.

If they were banned, A lot of people would become criminals. I would be willing to be that they euthanize all collected animals but they would probably just let everyone keep the hots they currently have and just prevent the breeding and selling of hots.

I think Chris probably means "ban" breeding, although I suppose sterilization wouldn't be out of the question. But I'm with you, Charles. Hopefully we'll never have to find out.

Same thing the did with the big constrictors in FL- say you are not allowed to acquire any new specimen (even from breeding your own) and if they find out that you hatched out some more you got a fine or whatever it is they decide to give you.

This question has been asked in many different forms since this forum began.
In almost every single instance, someone posts about how they will never give up their snakes no matter what the law says.
As in several of the previous instances, I would like to remind you all that Law Enforcement agencies from several states and federal organizations review our ads and forum ON A DAILY BASIS!!!
Please do not post your intentions to break the law in this forum and then wonder why they show up at your front door.
Personally, when they say that I can't keep venomous snakes any more, I won't keep them anymore. Enough said.

Despite what has been said in the past, no one has made any direct mention of breaking any laws. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you publically admit to breaking the law you are openly welcoming any law enforcement to further investigate your claims.
Instead of reciting what's happened in the past Karl, why don't you try and formulate a reasonable answer to what was asked. Seriously, what would happen? Surely this situation has happened to some state already, or maybe not? You say that if you were no longer allowed to legally keep them anymore you wouldn't. Ok, I get that and I'm sure a lot of us would agree but that doesn't answer the original question. What would you do with the animals you were already in possession of?

Karl, I just realized I miss typed my first post here, I meant to say "I would be willing to BET that they euthanize all collected animals" not that I would be willing to BE a criminal as may have been miss interpreted in that post. I apologize for the confusion and I have no intention of breaking the law either.
