I felt compelled to respond to your posting outside of the context of Willicat's postings/questions...
I keep no herps of any kind and have no intention of ever owning any hots (I have a young son interested in reptiles, so at some point we *may* procure a non-venomous should the situation be appropriate); I frequent not only this site but a handful of others dedicated to hots. I find venomous snakes, their behaviors, their markings and their abilities fascinating and I have learned a great deal more simply by visiting this site and paying attention to the threads.
Willicat raised some valid points, particularly with respect to some of the flaming behavior on the site. In defense of the site, the regular flamers tend to be few, albeit vocal; most of the members are professional and present logical positions on many subjects. Unfortunately, at times (and like many other sites), the flamers and complainers simply outshout everyone else, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of some seemingly genuine questioners.
I think (and Willicat, if I'm wrong, please say so) that one of Willicat's main themes was a request to simply treat others courteously in the hope that courtesy and perhaps deeper learning will be the reward- sounds like a pretty good philosophy for any endeavor to me...
I'll get off my soapbox now...

Also , about point 1, Yes, there is not beginner hot and yes, you are not even qualified if you ask this. Why ? Because there is essentially no species of venomous snake that is non-aggressive. I have come across some snakes that absolutely never struck and were calm and snakes that were absolutely nasty with almost every species that I have ever kept. Therefore, if you want to go ahead and name a good non-aggressive beginner species be my guest but if someone gets hurt the blood is on your hands not mine. However, I would imagine that the fact that you have never owned a venomous because you are a moron have come to the conclusion that aren't intelligent enough to own one may inhibit your ability to answer this question.

Back from my long over due vacation and still amused to see an upset person because we're not rushing to meet these so-called newcomers by the gate to shake their hands and boost their egos.
If you have not kept any venomous snakes before but still feel entitled to comment on the subject matter of gate-keeping, please remember that your opinion is invalid no matter how suave you think you are. Please do yourself a favor and don't embarrass yourself on the Internet; you are leaving digital footprints everywhere you use your name. Of course, these people don't have the cojones to input their real names.

I do not think anyone here is looking for a handshake at the gate or ego boost, just courtesy. Think about it, do you come off like that if someone asked you the same question in person?
If you cannot answer a question without being condesending then that is on you and that is a reflection on you.
As far a embarrassing ones self on the internet? You have to look at yourself on that one. My name is in profile.
A question is a question and anwsering that question whether the person is wrong or not is called educating. Not everyone knows everthing but everyone can add something.
With that being said, this is a public forum that I have visited freququently for years and I am definitley not alone.

I believe the word you are looking for is "projecting". Yes, if you are assuming that I let unsatisfying past events and fearful future of the venomous hobby influence the way I personally react to some (not all, delusional) beginners, you are absolutely right.
What's still funny to me is these self-righteous individuals with no experience nor insight come out of the woods only to bang on the table demanding respect and wanting to dictate how exactly everyone should react to stupidity. If you're not content with that, please find a forum where individuals are more impressionable and/or easily influenced. Otherwise, please enjoy your stay and continue to learn.
